Chiefs Trade Franchise Tag CB L'Jarius Sneed to Titans

Late Night Deal Sends Sneed to Tennessee

Trade Details Unveiled

March 24, 2024 (Kansas City, MO) - The Kansas City Chiefs and Tennessee Titans have completed a trade involving Pro Bowl cornerback L'Jarius Sneed. The Titans sent a 2023 third-round compensatory pick and a 2023 sixth-round pick to the Chiefs for Sneed.

Sneed, who had been designated as the Chiefs' franchise player, was set to earn a fully guaranteed $19.8 million in 2024. The trade signals a shift in strategy for the Chiefs, who had previously been committed to keeping the star cornerback.

In exchange for Sneed, the Chiefs will add a young wide receiver in Kadarius Toney. The 24-year-old Toney, who was the Giants' first-round pick in 2021, has shown flashes of brilliance but has also struggled with injuries. The move gives the Chiefs a much-needed replacement for the departed Tyreek Hill.

The trade also includes a swap of defensive players. The Chiefs released defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs from their practice squad to make room for safety Tyree Gillespie, who was previously signed to a practice squad contract.
